Announced on Weekly Shounen Jump today, Boys Over Flowers Season 2 manga by Yoko Kamio will be simultaneously published digitally by Viz media. The chapters will be available digitally for FREE on Viz’s manga app or can be viewed at vizmedia.com
The first chapter will be available on February 15 and will continued to be published bi-weekly and simultaneously with Japan. Weekly Shonen Jump will also run the first three chapters as a JUMP START in the February 16th issue.
What’s it about? The second season seems to be set 4 years after the first series. It looks like a new cast at a new elite academy.
Kamio’s original series, Boys Over Flowers, translated from Hana Yori Dango, is the highest selling shoujo manga series in Japan with a run of 36 volumes. The original series ran from 1992-2003 in Margaret magazine. In 1996 it won the Shogakukan manga award for the shoujo category.
Synopsis of Boys Over Flowers: Although Tsukushi Makino is from a poor family, she attends an elite school for the super rich, where her life has become intertwined with the “F4,” the ruling boys of the school, in a whirlwind of love and confusion!
I have done a review of the original Boys Over Flowers. Avid fans of Kamio’s tend to disagree with me as you can see in the comments. If you have any interest in reading the original series Viz is running a temporary special – $19.99 for the first 10 volumes digitally.
