Fall 2016 Anime We’re Still Watching

I don’t know about everyone else, but my watch schedule this fall has been packed! There are so many shows I want to see, and only so much time. I’ll share what has stayed on my regular watch list as well as what I’ve let go to the wayside.

Every Wednesday evening I’m definitely glued to the screen watching the next episode of Yuri!!!!! on Ice. I was highly anticipating this series, and I’ve had no disappointment so far. The skating is fantastic, the boys are so fun to watch, and the plot just keeps developing. I would say this has been the break out hit this season among both genders. I’m kind of sad this has one season, because I could continue to watch it, like forever!

Then there’s Friday night’s must see – Haikyuu! Season 3. It’s a cliffhanger every episode as the boys battle Shiratorizawa High. The best episode so far has been episode 4 – The Halo Around the Moon. So many of us jumped for joy to see the outcome of Tsukishima’s blocking. This series leaves me wanting more every week! If you haven’t ever watched it, I suggest starting from first season and marathoning it – which is what I did about a month ago. You won’t be sorry.

Everything else I catch up on over the weekend. I’ve continued to watch DAYS, hoping to see Tsukushi turn into more of a soccer player.  The series doesn’t disappoint there, and the most recent episode finally has him making a contribution to the team. My only gripe with this series is what I’ve heard others vocalize – there are no red cards in this series, and dayum! there should have been a ton by now. Especially when Kazuma gets stepped on purposely. I’m yelling at the screen because the refs are blind in this anime.

But the rest of the guys have very little personality at this point. And the art in this series is just plain weird. It’s suppose to be a style, but most of the guys just look odd to me. Way to ruin a bunch of nicely built guys – making them have strangely shaped faces and bodies. Only one is truly good looking, and that’s the one with the nice ass on the poster art. I’m not taking this one any further – it’s out for this season.

What I have been loving to watch with nice looking guys is Magic-kyun Renaissance. This one hits a lot of favorites with me, maybe because I like the fine arts. Seeing the heroine become endeared to a new member of the harem every week is so much fun – we get a song and a music video with every guy! The animation in this series is just so pretty, with the all the magical colors and flowers.  The music is great and even the still art in the closing is gorgeous. Every episode is a new drop of joy in my bucket. If you haven’t checked it out – I highly recommend it.

Singing guys includes the idol animes of this season as well. I have been watching Dream Festival and Uta no Prince-sama Season 4, too. I have to admit that I’ve been keeping up with Dream Festival more because I like the non-harem aspect. It’s just a bunch of guys trying to become idols with music and quirky outfits. I have to laugh at some of the fashion, as it’s hideous at times.  The main character is also appealing to me because he’s so outgoing. Every episode we get a some fan service and a concert with a song. The concert transformations are fun girl fanservice – as the guys look nude and their clothes magically appear on them. These anime are adapted from otome games, and I wish we could get them over here because I’d definitely play them.

Uta no Prince-sama Season 4 starts out with the duet project between Heavens and Starish. Each episode has been about the two pairs making their duets together. Which is helping to develop the plot, but I’m kind of like “meh” at this point. We got a nice shot of Ichinose in the second episode, and that made me happy. He’s been my favorite since first season, and that hasn’t ever changed. I’m waiting for the rest of the season at this point and then I’ll go back and watch it all.

March Comes In Like A Lion is on my list but I’ve not watched any of it yet.  It is going in the category of letting it accumulate and then watch it all at once. I’ll let you know if I get to it, but I do plan on watching it since Chica Umino did the character designs.

I did end up dropping one other series, and you guys might or might not relate. I have read the manga of Kiss Him, Not Me, and it’s not my favorite series. It’s funny, don’t get me wrong. But I’ve not been dying to rehash the story by watching the anime. I saw episode 1 and never went back.  So it got dropped off my watch list this season. It’s the only anime based on a shoujo manga this season – so by all means if you love it, watch it. It’s just not on my priority list right now.

And that’s covered the list for this fall anime season. What about you guys? Are there any series that have become your new favorite this fall? Tell us!
