Idol Star Profile: B-Project

Laura and I have recently been discussing 2D idols a lot, so we figured there were a group of you out there fandoming with us as well. We decided to do a series of posts about the 2D idols we are both fawning over. This group, B-Project, will be the first since the anime is just airing this summer season and they are top of mind.

B-Project is probably one of the most well-known 2D male idol groups thanks to its anime featuring ten of its members. They are part of three subgroups: THRIVE, MooNs, and Kitakore. A fourth group was added, called Killer King. There is an anime for the original 10 members, which doesn’t include Killer Kings. Besides an anime, B-Project is also getting a game adaptation and has a currently running manga. B-Project is a project by MAGES, with singer T.M. Revolution being the executive producer on the anime. The artwork is done by Utako Yukihiro, who is known for creating the artwork in the Devils and Realist manga and Uta no Prince Sama franchise. Above is an official video introducing the original ten members.

Music: The group produces songs together and as part of their subunits. You can sample their music on their official website. I personally favor Kitakore best, especially the song “恋セヨ乙女” (Koi Seyo Otome). If you like idol and music anime such as Uta no Prince Sama and STARMYU, you’ll more than likely like them too.

Anime? Yes. B-Project: Kodou Ambitious is available to watch on Crunchyroll.

Manga? Yes. There is another story drawn by Mizu Morino currently running in Cheese! called B-Project: Mousou*Scandal. The manga started running in May 2016.

Crunchyroll anime summary: Our protagonist, Sumisora Tsubasa, just got a job as a new A&R person at Gandala Music, one of the biggest record companies in the business. Almost like it was a trap, as soon as she started with the company, she was put in charge of the idol unit, “B-PROJECT.” Being in charge of B-PROJECT meant that she was in charge of the three groups, “Kitakore,” “THRIVE,” and “MooNs.” Because this is her first job, things don’t go that well and she’s faced with various trouble and accidents. Be ambitious along with the ten BOYS who are all very different!

We’re trying to gather more information on idol groups, so look forward to future posts on others, such as Tsukiuta and the world of Idolish7. If you have a favorite Japanese 2D idol group, please tell us in the comments!
