Library Wars vol. 8 – Arikawa & Yumi

Library Wars has been published by Viz since 2010. It’s been a couple of years since my last review. Time to give an update on the series. I chose the most recent volume 8 because it stands out due to plot developments.

Publisher synopsis: The Media Betterment Committee’s inquiry into Iku’s role in the so-called book burning continues, and an evil conspiracy comes to light. Someone on the team is deliberately manipulating Iku, and even her attraction to Dojo becomes fodder for the fight! Will Iku ever understand Dojo’s feelings for her?

Dojo consoles Iku

Dojo consoles Iku

Volume highlights: Iku struggles with the ostracizing caused by the inquiry, and ensures Dojo that she’s doing well. When the enemy tries to recruit Iku to get at Tezuka, Dojo steps in to whisk her away. That’s when Iku finally admits how hard things have been, and Dojo consoles her. Shortly after, Iku gets a letter revealing the true identity of her prince. Watching Iku squirm over her actions towards Dojo in the past is the highlight of this volume. Her new awareness causes awkwardness. When Iku and Shibuzaki must go undercover as college students, the boys in the task force discover what a looker Iku can become.

While some complained that it took this long for Iku to discover her prince, readers have known since volume one, and it’s been a fun joke to be “in” on along with the rest of the characters. I look forward to future developments between Iku and Dojo, now that both characters are aware of their feelings.
