Melody – Current Serializations

Melody is a shoujo manga magazine published by Hakusensha every other month, on odd numbered months. The target audience is an older female audience. Series from Melody have been licensed by Viz media.

So which series have we seen in North America? The only series we’ve seen in North America so far is Fumi Yoshinaga’s Ooku: The Inner Chambers, but this year we will also be getting Arina Tanemura’s 31 Ai Dream, or Idol Dreams, as it’s been adapted. Well, what else might we ask for? Here’s what’s currently running in Melody:

Yosh! Those are all the series currently running in Melody. There are always short stories and one shots of course. These are the main series you will see that are ongoing.

So which of these series that’s non-licensed would I like to see? There’s a few series that interest me from the synopses.

  • The story about the married couple, Otogimyou Ayanishiki Futatabi, is a sequel to the original series. The series is a historical romance with magic, something I’d really enjoy. This is not one we’d ever see licensed most likely.
  • SupiSupi Jijou reminds me of Chi’s Sweet Home. It shows the story around a bird, with the humans adding dialogue. It would make for a cute read, especially if you really like birds.
  • Ichi no Shokutaku is also a title that interests me. They’re calling it a “gourmet period drama”. The heroine works in a small foreign town food shop where she meets the third captain of the Shinsengumi. Food, hot guys, historical romance – okay, sign me up.
  • Himitsu Season 0 looks interesting but I can’t really find what it’s about. I’ll have to keep searching.

How about you? What title would you buy if it was on the shelf?

  • I have to agree with your opinion. Those series all look really cool. Such a shame that we hardly get any josei. It’s hard enough to get any decent shoujo, but lately Viz has been doing a really good job with licensing new titles.
