Memorable Manga Moments: Dawn of the Arcana vol. 1

With the new volume coming out this week, I’ve decided to focus on Dawn of the Arcana as the topic of choice. When I first opened up this series I wasn’t sure what to expect. This particular scene in the very beginning of the novel sets the tone for the strength of our heroine.

This is the first glimpse at our three main characters, and boy does it play out beautifully. Princess Nakaba, who is the new bride to her enemy’s prince, Caesar, is belittled by her husband as a piece of property. Angry, Loki, her attendant, comes to her defense and pulls a blade on prince Caesar.

Furious at his stupidity for putting himself at risk, she slaps Loki and reprimands him for attacking her husband. When Caesar makes a smart-ass comment, she turns around and punches him in the face, declaring to Loki that it is her duty to discipline her husband, not his.

Woo-hoo! Go, Nakaba! You let the boys have it when they try to act all macho, girl! This scene won me over right away to this clever and brave heroine. It shows how Nakaba stands up to her enemies as well as uses her wits to save her attendant. Toma does a fabulous job of introducing her main characters and giving the audience a serious taste of the personalities that will dominate the upcoming storyline. One of my favorite scenes in the series so far, and darn memorable!
