Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
I said I had a lot of memorable moments from Fruits Basket, and this is the next one in a long series I have planned. Taken out of volume 2, this scene features Yuki, Kyo and Tohru at New Years.
The boys are prepared to go to the big house for the New Year’s ceremony. Since all the zodiac members must attend, that leaves Tohru at home by herself while the guys are away. Tohru sees them off with a smile. As they leave the boys realize that this will be the first New Year’s eve Tohru will be without her mother. They race back to the house only to find Tohru in tears. Relieved they came back, the three then spend New Year’s eve together.
What makes this scene memorable is that the boys once again think of Tohru’s feelings before their own. They decide to take whatever punishment Akito deems necessary for skipping out on New Years, so that Tohru is not alone and crying. Although Yuki and Kyo don’t usually agree on things in the beginning of the series, when it comes to Tohru, they are pretty united. This is another example of how Tohru brings Yuki and Kyo together.
