Memorable Manga Moments: Kimi ni Todoke

Kimi ni Todoke has very well developed characters. This scene I’ve chosen from volume 6 is not the main protagonists, but supporting characters Chizu and Ryu.

In this scene Chizu asks Ryu to comfort her. Chizu has loved Ryu’s older brother Toru since childhood. He has recently come to visit and Chizu is looking forward to his arrival. This time however, he brings his fiance. Devastated, Chizu gets upset with Ryu for not telling her. She even messes up giving him his birthday present. In this scene she is apologizing to Ryu and trying to reason out her feelings.

I love this scene because Chizu shows her true emotions and Ryu shows his ample maturity. Ryu has always loved Chizu, but she has always had feelings for his older brother. Even though I’m sure he wishes he were the object of Chizu’s affections, Ryu is able to comfort her when her heart is broken. That shows how deeply he really cares for her. I sincerely hope these two get together by the end of the series!
