? On the twelfth day of Christmas my bishie gave to me – 12 Blue Spring Ride Episodes ?
Those of you who know my fandom here know that this was definitely on my Christmas list this year. It just came out on DVD and Blu-Ray last month. In case you haven’t seen this emotional high school drama, then you can find it streaming on Crunchyroll.
What’s it about?
Can you change who you are inside? In middle school, Futaba’s shy nature and cute appearance attracted boys, but made other girls so jealous that she became a social outcast. So, when high school began, Futaba remade herself, becoming sloppy and pretending to be unfeminine… and now she has friends! But her new world comes crashing down when she runs into a boy she used to know: Kou. The one boy who could have become more than just a friend.
Except Kou’s changed as well. So much so that she barely recognizes him. And while the attraction that she used to feel seems to still be there in her heart, he doesn’t seem to feel the same way anymore. Or does he? Is the difference in the way Kou’s acting due to how different she’s ostensibly become? Or have they both changed too much to ever recapture what they had?
What’s to like?
Being that this is my favorite high school drama anime, I’m a little biased. Besides the fantastic characters, I love the art and the music in this series. I did an episode by episode commentary when it simulcast on Crunchyroll, and I can still continue to watch it over again. There are so many lovely nuggets of memorable moments that happen. I’ll never get tired of seeing Kou animated either.
Where can I get it?
Anime retailers usually have it. I’ve found it on RightStuf and Amazon. The DVD and Blu-Ray by Sentai Filmworks are both subtitle only – so be prepared to do a little reading.
And that’s it fangirls! This wraps up our Twelve Days of Fangirling series brought to you by Heart of Manga. We hope you enjoyed all the ideas and maybe we’ll try it again next year! Let us know in the comments.
