What I’m Watching and Playing – September 2015

There’s nothing like entertainment to take the days stresses away. This month, I’ve got a lot of fun stuff on my plate.

Games

Gossip Girl: PARTY Style Your Love

Gossip Girl: PARTY Style Your Love

Gossip Girl: PARTY Style Your Love (available on iOS and Android)

Summary from Voltage Inc.: Join the characters of Gossip Girl as the newest socialite in town! Become one of the privileged Upper East Siders, and fall in love with the sexiest, most intriguing guys. Get ready for decadent parties, endless drama, and scandalous love affairs!

Comments: I’m working on this one for an upcoming review, but as a fan of the book series when I was in high school, I was intrigued! The gameplay is a little different than I’m used to, but we’ll see what fun Voltage takes a GG fan like me on. The art is really cute. I’m playing it on my iPhone 5S, which makes it hard to read.

Beyond Light Advent

Beyond Light Advent

Beyond Light: Collectors Edition

Summary from Big Fish Games: As a child, you had a wonderful imaginary friend from outer space. Nix taught you about the stars and inspired you become an astronomer. Years later, while investigating a mysterious object in the sky, you discover that your imaginary friend was real all along! He’s come to warn Earth of a terrible threat – a merciless race of aliens is fast approaching, and you and Nix are the only ones who can stop them. Can you save both your friend’s planet and your own in time? Your journey will take you into the past and beyond the stars in this thrilling Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game!

Comments: I’m a big fan of casual and hidden object games. Beyond Light Advent stands out for its unique elements, storyline and graphics. I am by no means an expert of HOGs and have a hard time figuring out puzzles in these types of games, but the puzzles in this one are fun and not too hard. HOGs remind me a bit of Visual novels — maybe a bit more interactive but still very linear depending on the publisher. This game gets an A+.

Anime and Drama

She was Pretty

Summary from DramaFever: Following the collapse of her family’s publishing business, Kim Hye Jin (Jung Da Bin) lost everything, including her beauty, while her old acquaintance Ji Sung Joon (Yang Han Yeol) transformed from an unattractive geek into a handsome fashion editor. When the former rich girl (Hwang Jung Eum) and late bloomer (Park Seo Joon) are reunited at a fashion powerhouse, their reversed fortunes quickly become more drama than the publication can handle.

Comments: While this is a plot I’ve seen before, there is something about it that always keeps me coming back to watch this plot device. I haven’t started it yet, as the drama releases today on DramaFever.

Love & Secret

Love & Secret

Love & Secret

Summary from DramaFever: While studying fashion in the U.S., Han Areum (Shin So Yool) falls for Philip (Yang Jin Woo), a successful financier. But when he knocks her up and abandons her for an advantageous marriage, Areum returns to Korea, determined to raise their child on her own. Braving the stigma of being a single mother, Areum excels at the fashion company Winner, where love blossoms between the young designer and her director Chun Seongun (Kim Heung Soo) — until Philip decides to take responsibility at any cost.

Comment: I’ve been into more angsty dramas, similar to Pink Lipstick or Mask and this is the next drama to hopefully satisfy my appetite for real drama. I haven’t gotten very far into this drama, but hopefully it lives up to its expectations.

  • OOOOO never saw/read gossip girls but it sounds neat!

I really like story driven games so Beyond sounds really cool! Have you played any heavy narrated games recently that really gripped you?

    • Most of the games I’ve been playing have been reviews for the blog. Beyond is the only one I’ve been doing for “fun” and it’s taking me longer to finish it than I want. I have competing interests for the moment. You know… a backlog of anime and dramas and games and life :D. LOL. What about you? Also, GG is great. Although I know the author had a ghost writer finish the book series. I forgot which book was her last but I consider it the final book because the series sucked after it. The show is pretty good but the books are best. There is also a manga for it. I forgot to mention that. It was published by Yen Press.
