Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
At NYCC this past week, Kodansha announced another new shoujo series that will begin publication called First Love Monster, translated from Hatsukoi Monster. Hatsukoi Monster by Akira Hiyoshimaru is currently running in Kodansha’s Aria shoujo manga publication. It has 3 volumes published in Japan.
What’s It About?
When fifteen-year-old Kaho Nikaidou leaves her sheltered home to start life anew in a Tokyo high school dormitory, the last thing she expects is to nearly get hit by a truck! Saved in the nick of time by a handsome stranger, Kaho falls head over heels for him and, after finally tracking him down, boldly confesses her feelings. Turns out Kaho’s mystery savior, Kanade, is the son of Kaho’s new landlord! The handsome object of Kaho’s affection agrees to go out with her, but her newfound bliss is short-lived when it turns out that her new boyfriend…is a fifth-grader?!
Oooh! Older girl younger guy romance. Seems to be a trend in Japan recently, if I think of Neko to Watashi no Kinyoubi (Tanemura’s recent series) and Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii (Dai Shina’s hit series) and a few others I’ve seen. This one sounds interesting and the art makes it quirky in the sense that the girl almost looks like the fifth grader and the boy a high schooler. Plus, all his friends with one exception look like high schoolers too. So a nice group of bishies to fangirl over.
When is it coming to North America? Yen Press has not set a release date for this series yet.
