Adrienne’s Recent Haul – February 2016

Now and then I indulge myself in unnecessary items, and I decided to share a few things I’ve acquired over the past couple of weeks.

Meet Kuromame

Meet Kuromame. Otaku Mode.

Hige Manjyu Fuku Plushies (Big)
Meet Kuromame, a fat black kitty with an apathetic look on his face. I got this darling cat because I like cats, but I don’t want a real one. Otaku Mode has the best plushies. They have big ones, little ones, giant human-sized ones, and ones that can fit on your keychain. They have all sorts of animals including hamsters, dogs, rabbits, sheep, alpacas, and non-existent animal creations. I joked with friends recently that I might become the crazy cat plush lady. Kuromame an excellent quality plushie. Of the three from this collection, I chose Kuromame because he’s black like everything else in my room.

Description from Otaku Mode: These round Hige Manjyu Fuku plushies from Amuse are just your style if you’re looking for some felines with fascinating and distinct personalities! You have your choice of 3 different kitties: the cute but grumpy Kuromame, the bandana-wearing tabby Hotoke, or the content calico Mi-sama. At 13” x 10.2” x 15.7”, these plushies are big in size to match their large and in-charge personalities!

Fleur des Reines 2016 calendar

Fleur des Reines 2016 calendar. Amazon.co.jp.

Reines des Fleurs 2016 desk calendar
I have not played this game, but I am in love with the artwork of Reines des Fleurs. I initially thought it was a wall calendar for no real reason other than not reading correctly, but it’s a cute desk calendar. I was deciding between it and the Ten Count calendar.

Reines des Fleurs summary translated by VNDB: In the past, there was a goddess whom extended a helping hand to a world which was about to perish. That goddess, along with the four knights who served her, healed the ruined land using “Grace”, a power that rejuvenates worn down life forces, and saved the world.

Ever since then, because the goddess’ consciousness went into a slumber, she was to be succeeded by someone who will become a representation of her divine spirit, known as a “Reine”, and four human knights that were chosen by the world. As the world continued to enjoy the goddess’ favor, it continued to develop and advance.

However, at a certain point, even after coming into the world for generations, a Reine was not born. As a result, the supplies of Grace stagnated, and the world was once again threatened to be consumed by darkness.

But finally, the Reine of the next era, “Violette” was born. Adhering to the customs, she selected four men who are to become the queen’s knights. However, the hearts of those men rejected to bond with the Reine, due to the Reine’s long absence. In order to supply the world with Grace, the co-operation of the knights is essential. To obtain the trust and loyalty of the knights, Violette begins to take action…

Korean movies
I also picked up three Korean films. Woochi: The Demon Slayer, Antique Bakery, and Duelist. I’ve seen all except Woochi: The Demon Slayer. I watched the other two many years ago, and these are excellent enough movies that I decided to buy the DVDs. Woochi is available to download from the U.S. Amazon store, but I chose the DVD route for consistency. It’s not often I buy DVDs, actually, it’s a rarity, but there’s no other way to buy digital versions most of the time. Years ago, I downloaded my Asian dramas and movies. This was before the creation of Viki and DramaFever and the like. I think I have Duelist on my external hard drive to this day. But now that companies are getting the picture about what fans want, I can support the shows and movies I love. I highly suggest checking out these films. You can purchase Asian dramas and movies from places like Amazon, YesAsia, and Rightstuf. Antique Bakery is based on the BL novel by Fumi Yoshinaga, which you can find in English. The Korean live-action adaptation leaves out the BL for the most part.

Summary of Woochi: The Demon Slayer: This fantasy-action blockbuster based on a Korean folktale broke all box-office records in Korea in 2009. Jeon Woo-chi, an undisciplined, womanizing wizard unjustly accused of the death of his master, is trapped inside an ancient scroll until he is set free in 2009 by the wizards that imprisoned him to help fight against evil goblins that have taken over present-day Korea. The only problem is that Woo-chi is more interested in his new modern home, and the women of Korea, than becoming a hero. Will he be the savior of mankind?

Summary of Duelist: Detective Namsoon goes undercover with her partner Detective Ahn to investigate the production of counterfeit money. But when all the prime suspects are killed, the case becomes a much deeper mystery. She discovers one loyal henchman, Sad Eyes, a beautiful swordsman with a pale, blank face. Namsoon and Sad Eyes confront each other in a series of duels tirelessly chasing, being pursued and dodging each other. Inevitably, they fall headlong in love and their forbidden enchantment blossoms. Each struggles to reconcile the desperate conflict between love and obligation to duty, as they square off to meet their fate in one last duel.

Summary of Antique Bakery: As an heir to family fortune, Jin-hyuk has money, the looks, the charm, everything except finding the love of his life. So he sets up a cake shop where women are sure to come. He hires Sun-woo, a talented patissier who had a crush on Jin-hyuk back in high school.

Along with and ex-boxing champion Gi-beom and a clueless bodyguard Su-young, the four unique and handsome young men stir up the quiet neighbourhood at their cake shop, Antique. Although seemingly careless and happy, each of the four men have unforgettable past that they are afraid to face. But their secrets slowly begin to unravel

Do you collect anime merchandise? DVDs? Plush? What kind of things do you like to buy?u
