Akagami no Shirayukihime to get Summer Anime 2015

Sorata Akizuki’s long running shoujo manga series in Lala will be animated by Studio Bones. The anime will star Saori Hayami (Irregular at Magic High, Eden of the East) as Shirayuki and Ryota Ohsaka (Assassination Classroom, Attack on Titan) as Zen.

Deko Akao (Noragami, Arakawa Under the Bridge) will write the scripts and the characters will be designed by Kumiko Takahashi (Card Captor Sakura, Ouran High School Host Club). The music will be composed by Michiru Oshima (Fullmetal Alchemist, Patema Inverted). Akagami_Shirayuki_cover12The manga of Akagami no Shirayukihime is at 12 volumes in Japan with volume 13 being released this April. I did a license request for this series last year. Here’s a brief synopsis of the story:

Shirayuki is born with unique apple-red hair. When Prince Rajin of her country sends orders for her to become his concubine, she cuts off her hair and escapes into the woods that border her country. Traversing through the forest, she encounters a young man, Zen, who helps her after she cures his wounds. She discovers she has entered the neighboring country, Clarines, and decides to try to make a life for herself there with the help of Zen.

I’m so looking forward to this anime! I really would like to see us get this manga licensed in North America. It all depends on if Viz is willing to take a chance on a new mangaka. I’m sure this would do as well as Dawn of the Arcana.

  • AMERICA, VIZ MEDIA: LISTEN UP. Girl’s watch anime and read manga too! We don’t always watch romantic anime or read romance manga, but sometimes we NEED it. And with so few on the market, it’s hard to keep getting excited about another shonen battle manga. Kamisama Kiss has done VERY well, and I can only hope that companies will see that and realize that girls do support this industry.

I LOVE this manga and I cannot even believe this. It’s too perfect to be real!!! OMG PLEASE LICENSE THIS AND LET US HAVE THIS GORGEOUS stuff!!!

    • We need to be yelling at CRUNCHYROLL and FUNIMATION too. They’re the ones who might license the simulcast. I hope that we get a simulcast either way. Results should be telling at how well Yona and Kamisama Kiss have done with the simulcast viewing. With this being done by Studio Bones, it should be an excellent anime.

But yeah, we’ll hear from ShojoBeat next week for new series, and I would love for this to be one of them, but my hopes are not that high. We’ll see what they announce next week.

      • Yes! I actually posted on Crunchyroll and it got a lot of votes and I posted this all over Tumblr. I really want it to succeed. It deserves it!

Do you have any other series you hope to either get an anime or see a rescue or maybe a license? You always have great recommendations! 😀

        • I would love to see Orange by Ichigo Takano get a manga license or even an anime. It’s one of the best slice of life shoujo in recent years.

I really wish they would animate the rest of Skip Beat! but that’s not going to happen, most likely. If you want to watch season 1 it’s on Crunchyroll.

Current shoujo to get animated, hmmmm, most of the big name long running series have gotten animated. Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru would have made a great anime, but it’s gone on hiatus and I don’t know when or if it’s coming back. Watashi ni Ookami-kun would make a cute anime, kind of like Fruits Basket or Kamisama Kiss but its kind of new, not a lot of chapters out yet.

There are a lot of manga series I’d like to see licensed, but it’s not relevant to this post. I think I’ll make a list and post it sometime in the near future. I’ll be doing another post like the one about books in Japanese next month. 🙂

          • Wow thank you! Orange sounds really good and it’s a shame that more shows aren’t licensed. Maybe companies should start asking their customers what they hope to see, to get an idea of the market and maybe we could at least get a manga license.

I am pretty certain Akatsuki no Yona could easily find a market. I will have to look at Watashi ni Ookami and Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru!

            Awesome! 😀

          • Forgot to mention you can read Orange in English on Crunchyroll digitally. I would just like to own the books.
