Kodansha’s July Digital Delights – Shoujo & Josei Manga

More digital licenses premiering this month from Kodansha and nary a whisper about it in major anime news channels. Here are the newest shoujo and josei licenses from some popular mangaka in Japan.

Hotaru’s Way (Hotaru no Hikari) – Satoru Hiura

Synopsis from publisher:

“I’d rather nap at home than fall in love.” 27-year-old Hotaru is a career woman and a himono, who unexpectedly finds herself involved with a younger man—who happens to be her boss! … How will this josei romance play out?!

Heart of Manga:

This series is the stand out among the mangaka’s long list of works, and I’m so glad to see it get translated!  It is a 15 volumes series that ran in Kiss magazine for several years. Hotaru no Hikari (Hotaru’s Way) went on to have two sequels after this one, so I look forward to reading this and hope it does well.

Love’s Reach (Kinkyori Renai) – Rin Mikimoto

Synopsis from Publisher:

Haruka Sakurai is the substitute English teacher who takes over after Yuni Kurugi’s homeroom teacher goes on maternity leave, and Yuni loves the way he looks—but she hates his flashy attitude. Thanks to that, her English grades have plummeted (everything else she has a perfect score on)! Now she has to take extra lessons with him after school, where she discovers Sakurai’s gentler side … ?!

Heart of Manga:

Gosh, I’ve been eyeing this series since I saw it on the Betsufure website years ago.  The art style really caught my attention. This was the series that Mikimoto did right before Kyou no Kira-kun, which is the one right before Kiss Me By the Stroke of Midnight that we are getting in print in September!! Love’s Reach is a total if 10 volumes. If you like teacher-student romances, then this one is one of the better ones along with Faster Than A Kiss.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card – CLAMP

Synopsis from publisher:

It is spring, with cherry trees in full blossom, and Sakura is just entering middle school. Her beloved Syaoran has returned from Hong Kong, and life couldn’t be better. But when she awakens from a strange dream to find her Sakura Cards powerless, how can she protect Tomoeda from disaster?!

Heart of Manga:

What, this is the first sequel to CCS in twenty years and you aren’t even printing it? Seriously?!! You think it won’t sell or what, Kodansha? Anyone who was at Anime Expo or saw pictures from there this weekend knew this was coming out because it was decked out all over the Kodansha booth.

This is my favorite magical girl shoujo and if you haven’t read or seen this story, well it’s time to. Those of us long standing fans are anxious to read this new piece from CLAMP.
