Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
This week’s fruits basket moment comes out of volume seven. Arisa Uotani is describing what her life was like before she met Kyoko Honda, Tohru’s mother. She was a gang member and pushed everyone away – smothered her emotions afraid of being hurt. Kyoko could relate to Arisa because she herself had been a gang member and gone through some similar emotions.
In this scene, Kyoko is carrying Arisa home after going through the gang “exit” ceremony, where everyone beats the crap out of you for leaving. Kyoko’s advice to Arisa struck a chord, and I think Takaya’s insight here is spot on.
Those dark moments in life that make you feel like crap – consider it fertilizer to help you grow! I love that. How you chose to deal with those emotions can make you stronger. True words of wisdom from Takaya.
It’s really a testament to how good this series is that you come to care for side characters like Uotani! Takaya’s advice rings true for me and this makes a great moment in the series. 🙂
