Memorable Manga Moments – Ouran HS Host Club vol. 17

Admittedly, I’m not a dedicated reader of this series. I’m more of a popcorn style, grab a random novel every once in a while and enjoy the silliness of the Host Club. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy reading this series. But I’ve yet to get through an entire read through from book one to current. Especially after viewing the anime. However, book seventeen caught my attention since Viz printed on the back, “The continuing story after the animated series!”

For those who haven’t gotten there yet, I’ll tell you right now this memorable moment is a big spoiler!!!

The Host Club has gotten dissolved and Haruhi is back to her rag tag appearance from volume 1. Tamaki has quit associating with her in order to appease his grandmother. Although Tamaki wants to unite all of his family, his father has made that very difficult. He forces Tamaki’s grandmother to resign as head of the Suoh Corporation, and uses Tamaki as a means to do so. Meanwhile he has brought Tamaki’s mother to Japan for a short visit to reunite mother and child. But because of the cruel means his father uses to usurp his grandmother, Tamaki refuses to leave her side to see his mother that he has not seen in three years.

The Host Club takes it into their own hands to get Tamaki to Narita airport to see his mother before her plane leaves Japan. All of Ouran High School steps up to help using their family’s connections. Haruhi accompanies him from the mansion to the airport. Prior to the chase Haruka encourages Haruhi to confess her feelings, and finally at the end of volume 17, we get that confession!

The word choice and timing just makes you melt. I can’t wait to see how Tamaki reacts in the next volume! This was such an emotional arc for Ouran. A nice change from the comedic plot lines. A very memorable moment!
