Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
So I was recently asked by a reader the other day what is my favorite shoujo series. I often avoid this question because I don’t want to push one particular series at my readers. I’d rather you guys read them all and decide for yourself. 🙂
However, if asked in casual conversation with another person what my favorite series is, I definitely have a list. But don’t take this as my saying these particular series are the best out there, or some such nonsense. These series are the just the ones that happen to strike a chord with me, and I love to read them over and over.
Hopefully you have heard of these series. A few of them are older and out of print, but you might still be able to find them on ebay or a library. If you want to know more about a particular series, feel free to ask in the comments below. 🙂 Almost all of these series are in the review index.
Omg I love Kimi ni Todoke, Ao Haru Ride, and Fruits Basket too!
My all time favorites are Hirunaka no Ryuusei, Ao Haru Ride, Tonari no Kaibutsu Kun, and Kyou no Kira Kun ^^
If people take offense for you listing your personal favorites, that is no way your fault. I really like comparing different opinions and trying new manga, so I really am looking forward to reading more of your favorites! 😀 Really need to check out Skip Beat and Sensual Phrase. Shinobi Life looks really interesting too!
Favorites of mine so far:
1. Kamisama Kiss
2.Fruits Basket
3. Ao Haru Ride
4. Lovely Complex
5. Hotarubi no Mori e
6. Kitchen Princess
7. Kimi ni Todoke
Not sure right now if I am going to add Kiss of the Rose Princess. It was really good, but I still have a lot of other series to read. What I listed are all of the manga I own and really enjoy even to today (Ao Haru Ride and Hotarubi are all in Japanese though lol).
Cannot wait to read Requiem for the Rose King!

Ooh, I like a lot of these, too. Fruits Basket also makes me cry. I think I’d have Lovely Complex up there somewhere too. I love the whole concept of short guy, tall girl, and they fall in love quite realistically with each other.
Although, I have never gotten in the hang of reading Kaikan Phrase. The female lead doesn’t do much for me (in my opinion, she is way too meek, can’t really stand up for herself, doesn’t have any real endearing qualities, shames herself whenever something horrible happens to her, and has the self image of a prepubescent girl in her crisis years). The male lead is much too dominant for my tastes and even takes his jealousy out on the female lead which is a distasteful for a male character. All the other supporting male characters either are in love with her and the female characters hate her to a delusional extent.
But that’s just my opinion. Thank you for the favorites list! I will surely give the others a go.
