Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
For the month of December 2014 we’re getting several new series from well established publishers. It’s exciting to see so many come out at one time, and I hope that we continue to have new series debuting like this throughout next year. Here’s the synopsis of the new series, and I hope everyone decides to give one or all of them a shot!
When Kana, a student at St. Agatha Academy, lays eyes on her long-lost childhood friend Aki amid the throng of the metropolis, the gears of destiny begin to turn! Meeting with an unfortunate accident not long after, Kana finds herself pulled from the arms of death by a vampire – Aki. Now Kana must give herself over to Aki, body and soul, as his “thrall,” and soon she is thrust into a dangerous game to obtain demonic powers known as “STIGMA,” which could very well spell the end for her all over again!
He’s My Only Vampire is the second new series from Aya Shouoto, with Kiss of the Rose Princess having debuted last month. After reading Kiss of the Rose Princess I’m rather thrilled to be getting another work from Aya Shouoto. Kinda disappointed it’s vampire title, but it sounds interesting. I’ll be sure to get a review up after I read it.
This time travel period fantasy steeped in black magic is one of the newest works to come from the pen of Kaori Yuki, master of Gothic suspense. When Sorath is miraculously saved following a great earthquake and taken in by a sinister baron, he becomes ensnared in not only a romantic triangle, but also the dark secrets of the estate that becomes his new home.
So sue me, but I’ve yet to read a series by Yuki Kaori. I know, I know, there’re lots of die hard fans out there. This one kind of caught my attention with the romantic triangle bit. I might just have to pick it up and see what all the fuss is about. Especially since we’re getting Alice in Murderland of her’s next year.
Yukari Kobayakawa, an accomplished author at the age of 17, writes with amazingly accurate details about historical Japan. It turns out he has the ability to travel back in time… to his past life as a renowned courtesan in the Edo period! As he goes back and forth between the past and present, he unravels the karmic relationship he has with his beautiful classmate Mahoro Tachibana…
All I had to see was Chika Shiomi and I’m all in! Despite that, I still would have bought this because I love historical pieces and time traveling. 🙂 If you’ve not read Chika Shiomi yet, make sure to give this series a try. Then pick up Rasetsu. 🙂
The second year of junior high, when most students are in the throes of puberty and feeling the pangs of first love. It’s no different for Kanata Tanaka and Kazuki Yoshikawa, a boy and a girl who have been friends since elementary school. But even though Kanata and Kazuki are at the same point in life as their classmates, an air of adulthood sets the two apart. Kanata is taller and more attractive than the other girls, but the boys stay away because she seems too mature for them. Kazuki too stands out from the other boys, but the girls are wary of him because he seems like a player. And so, Kanata and Kazuki are thrown together in a tale of two very adult students falling in love like the teenagers they are.
A high school series that seems focused on the hormonal side of a mature relationship. Well, it sounds interesting in that the two protagonists are mature for their age. So does that mean their relationship is about to get physical faster? Or do they want to get married in high school? Questions like those make me want to read a few volumes and find out what the synopsis means. I’ll let you know how it goes!
I pre-ordered “Love at Fourteen” and “Yukarism” because I had heard good things about the first series and as for the second, because it’s by “Chika Shiomi” 🙂 As for the other 2 series, I’ll borrow from library first. I do like “K
Yukarism sounds like a very fun read, especially since it’s by Chika Shiomi! I’ve loved her previous series’ a lot (though I still need to finish them).
