Reading Repertoire: Check Out These Blogs

Through random and not so random clicks I come across blogs that for one reason or another, stall me long enough to read a few posts. I’ve recently added some new ones to my reading list and wanted to share them with you if you’re interested.

The first one that highly intrigues me with thoughtful commentary is Beneath the Tangles – a blog that analyzes Christian themes in anime. Christianity is not a major religion in Japan. Christian symbolism in anime, however, is abundant. Thoughtful analysis of characters, plots, and symbols, though maybe not intentional on the part of the writers or artists, can be an interpretation for others. If you love or hate this idea, feel free to stop by and comment.  A plethora of opinions makes the content even more interesting and insightful.

Another blog that I found through Beneath the Tangles is Paper Chimes – a blog that provides opinions on manga and anime. What I really like is the writer’s voice.  An above average manga/anime fan that knows how to write thoughtfully and clearly. She’s been writing for a couple of years now, and has a good collection of reviews to peruse.

One I found through the Anime and Manga Bloggers for Japan movement was titled Mama Reads Manga. The idea of this one hits close to home because I’m also a mom who enjoys reading manga. After checking out the site I discovered CRO is a lot like myself in that she desires to write and draw manga as well as read and review it. Check her out if you have the same interests.

Last, but not least, is one I came across on Shelfari. Keen for Romance, by Kay, reviews books in the romance genre, and that includes shojo and josei manga.  I think she recently had technical problems and lost a lot of content. Keen for Romance is her new site and I wish her the best. Kuddos for forging onward and starting to collect more reviews. If you like romance novels as well as manga, go and visit Kay and check out her reviews.

For everyone, I do remember what it was like starting out on my own writing journey three years ago. I know the excitement of others finding and linking you. I know the disappointment of getting dropped as well. If you are writing for yourself, well, ultimately none of that matters. But I know how nice it is to get some recognition once in a while.

I say the above because I am not sharing to get something in return. I do so in order to give some recognition to good writers, as well as help readers find some interesting content as well. When I come across interesting sites, I add them to my blogroll. So if you keep an eye out, you’ll notice when I find a new site that intrigues me. If you read this blog regularly and know of any other sites that might pique my interest feel free to share in the comments.

  • Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s especially nice to to read compliments when they’re from someone I respect and whose work I enjoy! In fact, I visited this post hours after I read your review of The King of Eden (I’ll be reviewing it this Friday myself).

    Thanks again!

    • You’re very welcome. Your comment made my day. 🙂 I look forward to reading your review!

  • You have no idea how flattered I am that you’ve enjoyed my blog- enough to mention it on your site! Thank you!

    • My pleasure!
