Sho-Comi, short for Shoujo Comic, is published by Shogakukan on a monthly basis. The titles in Sho-Comi that have been licensed here in North America are from Viz media, with an earlier one being picked up by TokyoPop.
Which series that we’ve gotten in North America have been in Sho-Comi? Ceres Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yugi, Alice 19th, Imadoki, Sensual Phrase, Absolute Boyfriend, Wild Act, Kare First Love, and Red River. As you can see Yuu Watase dominates that list. And we haven’t gotten anything recently since Watase is now writing shounen. What about now, you say? What can we beg publishers for? Here’s what’s currently running in Sho-Comi:
Yosh! That’s what currently running in Sho-Comi. There are always short stories and one shots of course. These are the main series you will see that are ongoing.
So which of these series that’s non-licensed would I like to see? I like a lot of these authors, but we’ve yet to see their work in North America. Anything by Minami Kanan, Ai Minase, or Go Ikeyamada would be great! We are getting Miko Mitsuki’s Honey Blood manga in October, so I guess that’s some progress. Of these particular series I really like Ano ko no, Toriko and Hachimisu ni Hatsukoi. Miseinen dakedo Kodomo ja Nai is pretty good, but there are earlier series by Kanan I like better. Really, I’d read just about anything in Sho-Comi. I like the style of most of these mangaka.
How about you? Anything look interesting? What would you like to read?
