Shōjo License Request: Love So Life – Kaede Kouchi

Love So Life is a shojo series by Kaede Kouchi that is currently running in Hana to Yume magazine. So far there are seven tankoban volumes available in Japan, with the eighth coming out at the end of September. Kaede Kouchi is rather new to the manga scene, as she doesn’t have any previous series I can find listed. Love So Life is her first long-running work, and I’d say she looks to be a promising visual story-teller.

The Gist: High school student Shiharu Nakamura is an orphan who works part time in a daycare. When offered a higher paying job as a nanny for a set of toddler twins, Shiharu agrees. It turns out the twins are being cared for by their twenty-something, career-oriented uncle, who has his hands full single parenting and working long hours. Caring for the twins before and after school, and relying on memories of her mother for guidance, Shiharu quickly finds herself falling in love with the cute little sweeties… and possibly their uncle?

The “Give Me!” Factor: **Squee** OMG! The toddler twins have got to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in a manga! Shiharu is a sweetheart who loves children and has a strong desire to have her own family, since she is an orphan. I can really relate to that sentiment, since I had the same desires at her age. The children are so kawaii and their uncle is a hottie as well.  The art is very nicely drawn and the paneling moves smoothly. If this was on the shelves, I’d buy it up in a heartbeat.

The Audience Reception: I think this title would do well in the shojo market here in the states. From what I can tell on a variety of sites it is a very popular series. Most teen girls do like children and a relationship with an older guy is often a young girl’s fantasy.

  • I would love to see this title in my collection as well! Some say that publishers won’t pick it up because the target audience is typically teens, but it somehow promotes relationships between an adult and a teenager. Any thoughts? Could ‘that’ actually be the deciding factor?

  • I tried to buy it coz i loved reading it so much so i wanted a physical copy, until I found out it hasn’t been released in Australia…. I was sad

    • Yeah, we’re all with you. It’s not in English yet anywhere. We can all hope that it might be one day, though!

  • This is one of my absolute favourite series! I’ve read and re-read it and would definitely buy the volumes. It’s such a shame that we can only get the chapters online. It’s got to be one of the sweetest series ever,a definite feel good.

  • I would buy this manga!! 🙂 I love reading it online. It really does leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. I think it would do very well in English-speaking countries like N.America. It is one of the best manga series’ I have ever read.

  • I absolutely LOVE this manga!!! I wish it was updated more often because

it’s seriously one of my favorites!!!

    • Maybe if we can get some readers saying they would buy it, then we can convince a publisher to invest in the license. 🙂
