Shoujo Anime for Winter 2017

I have to laugh because this list does not include any anime that is strictly of shoujo genre. We are not getting more shoujo anime until next season. We are, however, getting some anime that will appeal to the shoujo audience. Here are some series that we think you might be interested in viewing over the Winter 2017 anime season.

Super Lovers Season 2 – Studio Deen

superlovers2

Synopsis: The first season began with a high school boy named Haru and his mother living overseas. His mother orders him to take care of and “civilize” his adoptive brother Ren, a wild young boy who dislikes talking with other people. While their relationship is adversarial at first, they grow closer as they begin to understand one another. The second season’s story begins with Haru’s mother Haruko declaring she will “bring Ren back to Switzerland!”

All the fujoshi will be watching this one.

Super Lovers 2 premiers on January 12, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Spirit Pact – Emon

spiritpact-1-707x1000

Synopsis: Heir of an old famous family of exorcist, Keika You is stricken by poverty after losing his parents. He struggles as a street fortune teller and computer recovery part timer to earn money. One night in a junkyard, he meets the mysterious yet charismatic exorcist, Ki Tanmoku, fighting an evil spirit. This encounter is the beginning of a fated story for Keika You. Unfortunately for him, he was actually hit by a car and became a ghost. That was when the handsome exorcist Ki appeared and asked Keika to make a “pact” with him to fight evil spirits together. Here starts the friendship of our heroes!

All the fujoshi will be watching this one, too, for the bait.

Spirit Pact premiered on January 7, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Marginal#4 KISS Kara Tsukuru Big Bang – J.C. Staff

czplyhruqaqdoqc-jpg_large

Synopsis: The anime follows the Marginal#4 idol unit, who made their debut at Pythagoras Production on February 13. The members give their all for their fans in their idol activities, but they are also normal high school students. The anime will follow both their everyday lives as high school students and their lives as idols.
This is the Winter 2017 idol anime for fans. I’m not as familiar with these music groups as some are, but it’s worth a look-see.
Marginal #4 KISS Kara Tsukuru Big Bang premiers on January 12, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Descending Stories: Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (Season 2) – Studio Deen

showgenroku2_full

Synopsis: The 2nd season adapts the “Sukeroku Anew Arc”. The second season’s stage will move forward to the modern era, and the story of Kikuhiko and Sukeroku’s past will be over.
Started first season and never finished it, but this is the best drama of last year’s anime.  Highly recommend giving it a chance. Besides, it’s been a while since we’ve had a josei anime that did so well.

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Season 2 premiered on January 7, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Kuzu no Honkai (Scum’s Wish) – Lerche

scumswish

Synopsis: Hanabi and Mugi are bathed in envious gazers from all around as a beautiful couple with excellent moral conduct. But these two apparently perfect people in an apparently perfect relationship share a secret they can’t tell anyone.

This one is a popular romance manga turned anime. Kind of smutty as well.

Kuzu no Honkai premiers on January 12, 2017. I can’t find it yet, but it will be streaming on Amazon Prime.

Fuuka – diomedea

fuuka-anime

Synopsis: The story centers on a young man named Yuu Haruna who has just switched schools. He’s a bit shy, and he’s constantly glued to his smartphone so he can check Twitter. He meets a girl named Fuuka Akitsuki, who doesn’t even have a cell phone, is free-spirited, and naturally fascinates others. Yuu recently has been getting back in touch via Twitter with his childhood friend Koyuki Hinashi, who is now a popular singer. One day Yuu invites Fuuka to one of Koyuki’s concerts, and there the three meet for the first time. The story follows the love triangle between a love that started through electronics, and a love that didn’t start through electronics.

Romance and music, I’m in for this one. Did not realize this was the sequel to Suzuka, but I haven’t read the Fuuka manga yet. Stayed away because of some commentary. Time to check it all out!

Fukka premiered on January 6, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation (Season 3)- TMS Entertainment

yowamushi-pedal-3

Synopsis: The upcoming season will mainly be a continuation of the two previous seasons. The first and second seasons were all about the Inter High bicycle race and how each of the high school teams and their members prepared for the race. Now the third years have graduated and there are new first years coming into the club.

This is the new sport anime this season. I’m sure fans of the series will be tuning in to see the next part of the story. I have not watched the first two seasons, so it may be time to check it out.

Yowamushi Pedal Season 3 premiers on January 10, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Chain Chronicles: Haecceitas no Hikari – Telecom Animation Film

chain-chronicle

Synopsis: This is the story of the Chain Chronicle, a book that describes everything that happens in the world. The citizens of the remote continent of Yggd once thought that there was nothing beyond their continent. The continent was divided into several regions, each with its own king. Though there were small skirmishes amongst them, a lord, chosen by the kings in conference, always maintained balance, until the evil Black Army arrived. The Volunteer Army, led by Yuri, was no match for the Black Army. During the fighting, the Lord of Black captures half of the Chain Chronicle, as well as the capital.

A good action and adventure fantasy for those who enjoy the genre. Will be on my watch list for this season.

Chain Chronicles premiered on January 8, 2017. It will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

3-gatsu no Lion – Shaft

Synopsis: Rei Kiriyama is a 17 year old boy who recently started living alone, financed by his salary as a professional Shogi player. Despite his independence, however, he’s yet to mature emotionally, and his problems continue to haunt him in his daily life. His relationship with his adoptive family is strained, and he has difficulties interacting with his fellow high school students.

Meanwhile, his professional career in Shogi has entered a slump. Burdened with the heavy expectations placed upon him, his wins and losses are fluctuating as his record and progression into the ranks begin to stagnate.

Acquainted with Rei are the three Kawamoto sisters: Akari, Hinata, and Momo. Unlike Rei, they live happily in their modest home, which they warmly welcome Rei into as if he were one of their own. He frequently visits the family, interacting with them and receiving the kind of care and affection he never quite had while under his foster home.

This is the story of Rei’s triumphs and failures, relationships new and old, and his growth as a person.

Carry over from last season, this story is continuing through the winter. Definitely time to marathon last season’s episodes now.

3-gatsu no Lion is streaming on Crunchyroll.

All Out!! – Madhouse Studios

alloutanime

Synopsis: Gion Kenji is short and perpetually pissed off about it. Iwashimizu Sumiaki is tall but timid. Although it’s bullies that bring this unlikely pair together on the first day of high school, it’s the rugby club that will make them friends.

Also another carry over from the fall.

All Out!! will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Kuroko’s Basketball: The Extra Game Movie

kuroko-no-basket-the-movie-last-game

Synopsis: An animated film adaptation of the Kuroko no Basket: Extra Game manga.  An American street basketball team called Jabberwock comes to Japan and plays a friendly match with a Japanese team, but after the Japanese team suffers a crushing defeat, the team members of Jabberwock start mocking Japanese basketball. Their comments enrage Riko’s father, and so he gathers a team made up of the five members of the Generation of Miracles plus Kuroko and Kagami, called Vorpal Swords, to have a revenge match against Jabberwock.

I hope that Crunchyroll will get this when it comes out to dvd.  This is the sport animation I would like to see this season.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale Movie

sao_ordinalscale

Synopsis:In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba. Called NerveGear, it was the first full-dive system and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs.

In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is “Ordinal Scale” (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma.

Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They’re about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn’t all fun and games…

SAO is still highly popular and will be premiering in North American theaters as well. Go to the official website to find tickets near you.

Aniplex will be bring SAO: Ordinal Scale to theaters starting March 1, 2017.

What are you looking forward to watching??

  • None of the titles you listed are shoujo? If you don’t know what shoujo exactly is why are put that word in a title? You are messed-up

    • Did you read the first paragraph? Because I told you none of them were strictly shoujo. Would you rather it be blank? There were no shoujo anime this season. Maybe you might find one of the titles listed of interest, though. That’s the point.

  • u know guys….fuuka dies in the manga and the story continues with another fuuka who was respnsible for the real fuuka’s death T…..T

    • Wow. Way to spoil it. But that does suck for a plot device – makes me not want to finish it.
