Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
I had this post on the calendar, since there were quite a few licenses announced at San Diego Comic Con last year. So I watched all weekend as panels happened – to see what publishers would announce. I’m sad to say there were no new shoujo manga licenses announced from the major publishers at SDCC.
That only leaves Otakon and New York Comic Con for Shojo Beat to announce something new. Kodansha didn’t announce anything either. Seven Seas did recently, so I wasn’t expecting to hear anything from them this time around. Yen Press I’m not as hopeful for either.
I guess I can throw you a bone and say that Tokyopop is going to print an “original manga” based on the live action Beauty and the Beast movie that is coming out in March 2017. The manga will be two volumes long, and will feature original art from Japan. Their other titles coming out will also be Disney based, with a Stitch manga coming in August and a Nightmare Before Christmas coming in October 2016.
That’s the only shoujo-audience “manga” announced at SDCC. Disney adaptations. From Tokyopop.
There aren’t typically a lot of manga industry panels at Otakon (Viz and Vertical have ones but not YP or SS and I can’t recall about Kodansha) so I wouldn’t expect any there either.
