Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
You can check out my previous post on stylish female drama characters. But now we turn our attention to stylish males. I will say that there were (like with the females) so many to choose from. As I whittled down my list to three whose style I liked, I realized that what I considered stylish for women was much different for the men. For example, there are more unique dressers than the ones on this list — however, these three characters evoke more than just style, but character.
I’m looking at more than just the clothes that are put together to create a look but what it represents of each character (similar to what I did with some of the female characters).
This villain is all business. He’s posh. He’s rich. He’s devious. I couldn’t stop staring at his hair. Hair is like an accessory. It can make or break your outfit. It can tell us so much about a person’s sense of style. His hair is very conservative, very business-like, neatly coiffed. Just like his personality (or what he wants us to believe, underneath it all he’s run by emotions such as hatred and revenge). Just like his clothes. Underneath the cool, calm exterior is someone motivated by hate. Nonetheless, if he were to walk into the room, I’d think he was important. I’d notice him compared to others.
When we first see Kim Tan he’s in sunny California dressed like his environment — very casual, like he spends his time surfing (he does). His friends are reflective of that. However, once he’s back in South Korea we see a change in his style (although compared to his older brother, he’s still not as uptight of a dresser). What’s noticeable about Kim Tan are his sweaters with the collars peaking underneath. He’s still conservative like the others on this list, but instead of suits we get sweaters. It gives him a more approachable, boy-next-door look. I did see his frenemy, Choi Young Do, on a few lists but I felt Kim Tan was most suitable.
Young Ho lives a dual life. He’s very active and into fitness and that plays a significant role in the drama. But he’s also very rich and in line to take on a rather lucrative role in his family’s company. If I had to choose which Young Ho I preferred — it’s definitely the gym rat. There’s some bias here, as So Ji Sub (the actor who plays Kim Young Ho) is very fit and fills the clothes out well. Young Ho is probably more comfortable in the gym than in a business suit, but he wears both well. I actually chose him as my top three because of his gym wear and how nice he looks in them. When you go to the gym, you’ll find some stylish people, but you’ll also find those who used their old college tees and ugly sweat pants at the gym. But not Young Ho. Even when he’s not in gym wear (or in a business suit), his style is sporty casual.
There’s so many styles to choose from with dramas. Actually, there’s so many characters to choose from anime and manga as well. Maybe we’ll try one of those next. Be on the look out for future style posts. In the meantime, let me know which male drama characters have a style you like.
All 3 mentioned one are from Kdramas. I think You can add 1 dozen more names there.
