Top English Mobile Otome Games of 2015

As I am pretty sure I’ve said before, this year was a pretty good year for otome game fans. We got two more games on Vita, a couple on Steam (although this medium is still lacking), and developers have been pumping out tons of games on mobile devices. For this I am only focused on English-language mobile games since they have the most amount of games in English and best accessibility.

NTT Solmare’s game series “Shall We Date” has some of the best-looking mobile games and story ideas. If I had to give a mobile developer the “Otome Developer of the Year” award for 2015, they’d win. Although, Genius would come at a close second. Voltage games are also really good. Games below are suggested based off of story, visuals, my personal suggestions, and ratings on Android and iOS:

Shall We Date?- Destiny Ninja

Shall We Date?- Destiny Ninja

NTT Solmare’s Shall We Date?: Destiny Ninja
This is not a game I’ve played, but I am recommending based on ratings and reviews. Destiny Ninja has more than 19,000 five stars out of more than 29,500 reviews on the Google Play Store. The game has 4.5 star rating on iOS with more than 3,500 reviews. That’s a lot of people who liked this game. It has a sequel called Destiny Ninja 2.
Summary: Shall we date?: Destiny Ninja is a popular novel type dating simulation game(Otome game) set in an era of Genpei in Japan. In the middle of war… A Ninja appeared infront of me after you lost my memories. You have since being put in the midst of the Genpei war and forbidden romance… A romantic adventure life with handsome ninjas and hidden feelings of love… Who is your Destiny Ninja?

In Love- Memories Can't Wait

In Love- Memories Can’t Wait

NTT Solmare’s In Love: Memories Can’t Wait (suitable for mature audiences)
I played this game because of the “real” men. It’s an enjoyable story with a few hot (though not explicit) scenes. I like the unique concept of using actual people for the story. It’s also well done, which is why I am recommending it.
Summary: As I wake, my head is throbbing and my vision is blurry. It takes me a moment to figure out where I am. I’m lying in a room I’ve never seen before. Where am I? Why am I here? Then, I suddenly realize that an even more crucial question needs to be answered: WHO am I?
I try desperately to remember something – anything at all – but even the tiniest fragment of memory escapes me. Without any idea of who I am or what has happened to me, I feel helpless and scared.
Here they come three beautiful men, each with a face and body that seems to have been sculpted by the gods themselves, enter my life.
Each offers me his help, his body, and his heart.
However, there is something dark at play behind my misfortune.
I need to find out who I am and what has happened to me – but even more importantly, I need to survive.
With so many questions and mysteries surrounding my life, there is only one thing of which I am certain: There is only one man whom I can trust to lead me from the darkness back into the light, and to protect me with his own life.

Office Secrets

Office Secrets

Voltage’s Office Secrets
I’m a sucker for office romances. Seriously, this is very common trope but I’ll never get tired of it. This game has four stars with 374 reviews on iOS.
Summary: You work at a well-known clothing company. One day, you’re suddenly transferred to a new department, where your coworkers are all top employees! You begin your new job and soon find yourself on increasingly intimate terms…

Grimm's Princess

Grimm’s Princess

Genius’s Grimm’s Princess
The graphics are what initially attracted me to this game. This game has 250 four and five-star reviews out of 321 reviews on Google Play Store.
Summary: You are a student without aspirations preparing for college; when suddenly a mysterious wizard appears before you leading you to a world of fairytales.
With your help the princes of this new world: Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty will defend their fairytale world from the approaching danger! Through each battle you and the prince will grow closer…what will be the result of your love? Only you can decide!?

Twilight Romance

Twilight Romance

Genius’s Twilight Romance
Another fantastic game from Genius with great graphics. This game has 712 five star reviews out of 1,226 reviews on Google App Store.
Summary: You lead an ordinary school life. However one day, you are attacked by Ray Appleby, a mysterious man who drinks human blood…As you are attacked, you see the same red eyes that you saw long ago when your parents were murdered…!! You barely escape with your life, but the men who saved you announce, “We are now your guardians.” A vampire, werewolf, and a hunter will be your guardians…! You become involved in a vampire succession struggle and the story continues to develop rapidly from there…! Your intimacy with your guardians grows through the conflict…What will your fate be? And which route will your love take…?

Admittedly, having played these games (below) on other platforms and because they are so popular, I can’t leave the following off the list:

Amnesia: Memories

Amnesia: Memories

Amnesia: Memories (also available on Steam)
If you plan to play the entire game, it’s better to buy the paid app ($22.99) than to make in-app purchases on the freemium version. You’ll save about 50 percent. Although, you can purchase this game for cheap on Steam during their current sale. I’m sure this won’t be the last time the game goes on sale on Steam.
Summary: It is the 1st of August. Upon awakening, you find yourself without any memories from before August 1st. Everything, from the sort of life you lived to the relationships you had, is a complete blank. A young boy named Orion appears in front of you, revealing himself to be a spirit attached to your mind. Under Orion’s guidance, you begin the struggle to regain your memories…

Hakuoki

Hakuoki

Hakuoki: (Also available on PS Vita; mobile version has exclusives)
Like Amnesia: Memories, it’s better to get the paid app versus the freemium one. This game goes on sale at the Playstation store every now and then.
Summary: It is the end of the Edo Era, and the 3rd year of the Bunkyu Era… The protagonist, Chizuru Yukimura, was raised in Edo and is daughter to a Rangaku scholar. Having lost contact with her father in Kyoto, Chizuru decides to visit him. There, Chizuru witnesses a Shinsengumi soldier killing a bloodthirsty monster. By strange happenstance, Chizuru finds herself connected to the Shinsengumi, and the assassins desperate to kill them. As time progresses, Chizuru will discover their terrible secret…Furies. Tortured by their own thoughts, the men of the Shinsengumi wield their blades in defense of their faith and ideals, in an era torn apart by chaos. Hidden in the riots that defined the passing of the Edo period, a dark battle within the Shinsengumi begins: A battle that will never be recorded in the pages of history…

Obviously, there are a lot of games (especially on mobile devices) and this list is in no way representative of every game or the best games. But feel free to leave in the comments your favorite otome games (no matter the language), including indie games and games on other platforms.

  • Are Genius games free, or are they like Voltage ones? The art looks amazing!

    • Yep, Genius is similar to Voltage in that you have to make in-app purchases to read the entire story.

  • Office romances are my thing lol. I guess it makes sense that they’re a very popular trope in Japan since women who work have to deal with tons of sexual harassment daily and have to act demure and dumb to advance in their position. My friend who lives in Japan tells me this stuff all the time and as much as I want to visit the country, the sexism really bothers me. Thankfully, it seems that it’s mainly focused in the workforce…anyways if you have any other office romance otoges, or ones where the heroine has to deal with her superior and they bicker a lot, that’d be awesome!

Be My Princess is supposed to be really good though, as long as you don’t use GREE. GREE has a very dumb heroine and a stupid premise from what I’ve played.

  • I just wish Voltage hadn’t ditched the rest of Office Secrets 🙁 It was my first otome game, and like you I was attracted to it because I love office romances. I want more Koji…
