Honest, intelligent news and reviews for manga romantics
Last year at International Comic Con, Udon announced the acquisition of two manga licenses for 2016.
Sugar Sugar Rune by Moyoco Ano – the most published josei author in North America.
The Rose of Versailles by Ryoko Ikeda – a long wanted series by shoujo fans in North America.
Both were slated to be published in the “second quarter of 2016” – which would have been April-June of this year. It is now July and we have no updates on these series. They are not listed in book seller catalogs as coming out soon, either.
So what happened to them? Prior to writing this article I tried to contact the publisher Udon several times. Their press form on their website is broken. I got no response when I tried other contact forms, and no response on social media.
An update from the publisher would be helpful to fans. At least let us know they’ve been delayed, or they are not going to happen now because of x. If anyone at Udon happens to see this article, then we would love to have some new information on these licenses.
I was really curious about this because I have the deluxe Japanese version but can’t wait for Rose of Versaille to be released in English. Hope Udon comes out soon. Thanks for the info!
I tweeted at them about a week ago, they tweeted back. They’re now saying that the Rose of Versailles manga will be released sometimes later this year :\ Udon is really bad at getting back to people. Your best bet is contacting them via Twitter or looking through said Twitter for comments.
RIP getting OOP manga is tough enough, why can’t they just rerelease the Del Rey versions digitally? I just tweeted them today, hopefully I’ll get a reply…
