YOU – Current Serializations

YOU is a josei manga magazine published by Shueisha on a monthly basis that is aimed at the an older female audience. We’ve gotten series in North America from Viz media.

So which series have we seen in North America? The only series that seems to have made it here is Honey and Clover, back when the magazine was actually called Chorus. Well, what can we beg publishers for? Here’s what’s currently running in YOU:

Yosh! Those are all the series currently running in YOU. There are always short stories and one shots of course. These are the main series you will see that are ongoing.

So which of these series that’s non-licensed would I like to see? Just give me the publication!;)

  • If I could only pick one it would be Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai by Aya Nakahara. You know, Aya Nakahara of Love*Com? I’ve been wondering what she was writing lately. This one looks interesting. The heroine spends all her savings on a younger guy she’s banking on marrying. But he dumps her and she’s left unemployed, broke and heartbroken. Then she runs into a former boss that she used to hate and he offers to help her. I thought that story was looking predictable, but Nakahara has plenty of plot twists. I’d like to see this one make it to print.
  • Maria no Shiru is by Rinko Ueda, whose other works Tail of the Moon and Stepping on Roses we’ve gotten in North America. Maria no Shiru is set in the Taisho period like Stepping on Roses, and it looks almost like more of the same. Poor girl that was once rich, love triangle, tsundere male, etc. etc.
  • Ninomiya-sama of Nodame Cantabile is drawing Onigiri Tsuushin – Dame Mama Nikki, which looks like a cute family story. I’d probably enjoy that one as a mom.
  • Moto Hagio is currently working on a story about Queen Margot. It’s a historical piece set in sixteenth-century France. Not my cup of tea, but I know there are a lot of Moto Hagio fans.
  • Takadaike no Hitobito is the other series that piques my interest. The art looks really nice. The three dark haired siblings in the story have ESP. A really plain girl gets asked out to dinner by the oldest boy because he enjoys her active imagination. The author tries to show the perspective of what it would be like to read others minds while in a relationship. It’s really interesting so far.

How about you? What title would you buy if it was on the shelf?

  • They all look fun/interesting. I read them all. I didn’t know that Kozueko Norimoto has 3 series going right now in different manga magazines. I’d read any series by her 🙂

    • Honestly I’d never really looked at anything by Kozueko Norimoto. When I read Taikadake Hitobito I really enjoyed it, so I’ll have to take a look at her other works. Do you have a favorite by her?

      • I’m sorry, I had missed your question here. I’ve been currently reading her Gokusen series in French. It’s great fun and I enjoy it a lot.
