“Black Rose Alice” and “Spell of Desire” debut in August 2014

Two new series for a more mature female audience debut next month from Viz. Black Rose Alice, translated from Kuro Bara Alice, is from mangaka Setona Mizushiro. Her series Afterschool Nightmare was previously published by Go Comi in North America. Spell of Desire, translated from Majo no Biyaku, is another work by josei author Tomu Ohmi. Her series Midnight Secretary is currently being published by Shojo Beat.

Synopsis from Viz:

Dimitri Lewandowski is a celebrated tenor in early 1900s Vienna. When he is killed in an accident, his corpse is colonized by the seeds of a vampire master. At first, Dimitri denies that anything has changed, but as the people around him start dying, he is forced to accept the ghastly truth.

Flash-forward to 2008. In Tokyo, Azusa Kikukawa’s troubled love life comes to an end with a fatal accident. Dimitri appears in her dying dreams with a diabolic proposal—he will save her lover if she agrees to become the breeding ground for the next generation of vampire seeds…

Synopsis from Viz:

Among the shocking news that Kaname imparts is that Kaoruko’s mother is still alive and has entrusted Kaoruko with the immense power of the Witch Queen. As long as Kaoruko has that power, she will be the target of humans and demonic spirits alike. Kaname claims to be a “knight” that protects witches, but then he steals a kiss from Kaoruko…!

I’m looking forward to Setona Mizushiro’s series seeing as I raved about the last work we got from her. I’m hoping Black Rose Alice is just as thought provoking. Conversely, Tohmu Ohmi is just great mindless smut that is fun to relax and read, so I’m glad we’re getting more of her works as well. What about you?
